Mission Statement
Through our distinctive coverage, C-VILLE Weekly works to spark curiosity and enable readers to engage meaningfully with their community.About C-VILLE Weekly
For more than 37 years, C-VILLE Weekly has been Charlottesville’s independent voice, delivering award-winning local journalism that informs, challenges, and connects our community. Founded in 1989, C-VILLE is a free alternative weekly newspaper covering the people, places, issues, and ideas that shape life in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
From investigative reporting and government accountability to arts, culture, food, and entertainment, C-VILLE tells the stories that matter. We hold power accountable, amplify underrepresented voices, and celebrate the people and places that make this community extraordinary.
Each week, C-VILLE reaches approximately 25,000 print readers, while our website attracts 146,000 unique monthly visitors and our newsletters reach more than 24,000 subscribers.
At a time when local journalism is disappearing nationwide, C-VILLE remains committed to keeping independent reporting free and accessible to all. Through fiscal sponsorship by the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation, C-VILLE can now accept tax-deductible donations to support its journalism, helping ensure Charlottesville has a strong local newspaper for generations to come.
