The Botanical Garden of the Piedmont (BGP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Charlottesville, Virginia, dedicated to connecting people with nature, inspiring learning through plants, advancing sustainability, and promoting human and environmental well-being. As Charlottesville’s first and only free, public botanical garden, BGP is creating a welcoming community destination where people of all ages and backgrounds can explore the natural world, discover the beauty and importance of plants, and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment.

At the heart of BGP’s mission is the belief that nature should be accessible to everyone. The Garden welcomes community members, families, students, visitors, and nature enthusiasts to experience the benefits of spending time outdoors. Through free and engaging educational programs, hands-on activities, guided experiences, and community events, BGP provides opportunities for people to learn about plants, wildlife, ecology, and environmental stewardship. Its programming is designed to inspire curiosity, encourage discovery, and foster meaningful connections among people and the natural world.
